Cape’s healthcare collaboration wins state reconciliation award

THE Cape York Kidney Care (CYKC) program has won the Health and Wellbeing category of the Queensland Reconciliation Awards.

To address the high rates of kidney disease and kidney failure needing dialysis in First Nations communities, Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service (TCHHS) partnered with Apunipima Cape York Health Council in 2019 to reach six communities: Weipa, Napranum, Mapoon, Aurukun, Pormpuraaw and Kowanyama.

QAIHC and ANU lead tobacco consumption consultation in Queensland

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Queensland have voiced their opinions on tobacco consumption and access by their peoples.

QAIHC, in partnership with Australian National University’s National Centre for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Wellbeing Research have conducted a series of consultation sessions throughout the state to determine community usage and gather feedback on measures to discourage smoking and tobacco use.
