QAIHC launches online resource to support doctors in ACCHO sector

A new online resource has been developed for health professionals entering the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled health organisation (ACCHO) sector. The ACCHO Sector Orientation Learning Resource preserves the stories and legacy of the leaders who helped to build the sector. It gives doctors, specialist trainees and other health professionals a practical, self-paced introduction to the sector’s history, values, model of care and cultural foundations. This will help them begin work in the sector with greater confidence, respect and cultural safety.

QAIHC Members voted for a new Board of Directors at the June AGM, marking a significant milestone in the organisation’s leadership journey. Eligible voters selected leaders to advance the Queensland ACCHO sector, to advocate for community priorities and drive forward health equity. The newly elected Board brings a strong mix of experience, cultural knowledge, and community connection to guide QAIHC’s strategic direction into the future.

ACCHO sector joins together for QAIHC’s State Members Conference 2025

The QAIHC Statewide Members Conference 2025 was filled with bold ideas, engaging discussions, and a shared commitment to self-determination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Queensland. Held from 3-4 June 2025 at the Pullman King George Square in Meanjin/Brisbane, the conference’s theme Real in Queensland focused on real reform, real investment and real outcomes.

Joint First Nations Forum sparks vital conversations between ACCHOs and health services

Building strong partnerships between ACCHOs and Hospital and Health Services (HHSs) to improve the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders was the key priority at the inaugural Joint First Nations Forum in August. The heads of QAIHC Member services and Queensland HHSs gathered at the Brisbane Convention and Entertainment Centre to discuss this important topic from August 5-6.
